Leased lighting

In November 2017 Gary Newth, Director of Devine Engineering, registered his interest in Rexel’s Energeasy retrofit programme.

Devine Engineering makes everything "from tent pegs to bridges” but they specialise in attachments for the forestry industry. It's heavy and challenging work that needs a good standard of lighting. It also demands light fittings that can handle the constant dust from grinding and welding, as well as the temperature extremes in a large unlined workshop in Taupo.

The energy audit was carried out by Rexel. After seeing the results Devine Engineering went ahead with a new energy-efficient lighting system, including rugged and reliable LED highbays that reduced glare in the workshop space.

Devine chose the RX Disk 200W highbay to replace their existing metal halide highbays which had been costing them around $2,000 a year in maintenance alone. Gary says they haven’t looked back since the retrofit, with immediate savings of almost $200 per month on top of the maintenance savings.

The Disk highbay has been used here with a diffuser kit to reduce glare and visual discomfort. As an added benefit of the lighting upgrade, the workshop now has better light levels and a more even light distribution which has reduced shadowing and increased safety and visibility on dark days.

It made sense to Gary Newth and his team to run with Rexel’s lease-to-own service. This lets them pay for their lighting over five years, transferring the cost to operating expenses and saving their capital for investment elsewhere in the business.

The retrofit was a triple win for this engineering company: they upgraded their lighting without any capital outlay, cut their energy costs, and improved light levels, making the workshop safer and more comfortable to work in.
